G'day folks!
I found this one on the IUMA and added quick support for Amiga SAS/C,
binary supplied for 040 or 030/881. Don't forget to (e.g.)
setenv MPEGTABLES g2:mpegaudio/tables
so the programs can find several files they require.
Encoding takes 50 times realtime on my A4000/040 for 44kHz stereo
to a 128kBit stream; so don't expect it to fly on your A3000 ....
For producing streams straight off CD, I recommend a Toshiba or Apple
CD300 (= Sony CDU-8003/5?1) drive and SCSIutil. I supplied a patch to
cope with the Sony's strange behaviour when reading CDDA data.
Also, for manipulation purposes, you might find SOX useful ...
Decoding is still somewhat slow with this decoder; I ported Tobias
Bading's "maplay" (original source on IUMA, too) to Amiga and rewrote
it to utilize integer arithmetic. It's 3 times faster than "musicout"
actually and will do real-time decoding on the A4000 soon (although
eating up almost all cpu power and with some restrictions to the play-
back frequency).
Hey Commodore, the Amiga community WAITS for the 3210 or whatever DSP.
Release it, _NOW_. Give us a Gravis Ultrasound-like card with one or
two DSP's and expect helluva sound !!!
Take a look at aMiPEG as well, my somwhat speedy mpeg video player. It
comes with full source code (like everything) and renders any stream to
a full-size! AGA screen.
Color interpolation and ECS support comes with the next release.
If you want to produce video streams, I suggest the Berkeley encoder,
a amiga port of which can be found on Aminet as well. It's a bit faster
than the Stanford encoder, although I experienced some problems with
the quality for synthetic pictures ...
